There has to be a way to break this, between free mana, pseudo-vigilance, and/or bypassing expensive equip costs.
Could be. I can't think of one though. A bunch of useful possibilities, but nothing over-strong. Stoneforge Mystic and Auriok Windwalker can bypass equip costs, and I think the free mana is less of an issue when the untap only happens once per turn, at the end of your turn.
It lets you functionally steal opponents equipment...
Not very effectively - the opponent can just pay to move it again in their turn. A bit frustrating, but not permanent.
But it steals it every turn. As you say, they can steal it back temporarily.
Yeah, that's one of the most useful uses of it. I think it's got three primary uses: untapping artifacts with tap effects, bypassing expensive equip costs on your own equipment, and stealing opponents' equipment (in a kind of timeshare way). All of them are somewhat situational, so I don't think there's a problem with this card as it stands at the moment.
