Great flavour. Usually equivalent to "Opponent can't gain life" of course.

What does it do to "Pay 1 life" costs, though?

As with Platinum Emperion, it basically means your opponent can't gain or pay life. In multiplayer, of course, it protects that player from everyone but you.

On a mythic, I'd expect this to be square-stats, 4/4 for 4. Since in duels all it does is hatebear a few odd mechanics.

You're probably right. I'm always hesitant with P/T when it comes to artifacts, but Wurmcoil Engine sets some precedent.

That's a sensible instinct for caution. But at mythic, every colour gets 4/4 for 4 with big upside: Indomitable Archangel/Jazal Goldmane/Ojutai Exemplars, Conundrum Sphinx, Erebos's Titan/Phyrexian Obliterator, Cyclops Gladiator/Obsidian Fireheart/Thunderbreak Regent. (Though hmm, I wouldn't have guessed that black would need the most intensive coloured mana there.)
