Haha, yes. The similarities are intentional.
Given how very clearly group-hug this is, I figured they had to be.
What do you think of the first ability? In commander, it means it's always the same cost, but in a "normal" game, it means that it's free the fourth time and after.
Sounds fine. Free creature spells are okay (Ornithopter is a combo piece but not a broken one), and this only becomes free once you've worked quite hard for it.
It does synergise nicely with the cost though.
Now that Derevi, Empyrial Tactician has been revealed, I feel less bad about this avoiding the commander tax. At least this isn't so blatant about it.
To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the format-specific cards like Fractured Powerstone or Command Tower, design-wise. I don't think the fact that they have abilities which are completely nonfunctional in certain formats is a good thing.
