Rolling again for Challenge # 078, I got 5 damage for 5 mana. On the hefty side (see Explosive Impact), but perfectly doable... Jack's already done one very sensible spell Volcanic Screwdriver at those stats. What other ways to deal 5 for 5 are there?

You know, maybe this would make a fine red Wrath. There was Blasphemous Act recently which certainly did the job, but more recently Wizards have tended to make red wraths also blow up lands (Wildfire, Destructive Force, Lavaball Trap). "5 to all for 5 sorcery" is cheaper than those, but usually weaker than Chain Reaction, so I'm sure its power level isn't too high. Is it too low? It's like an Earthquake fixed at one point, only getting a discount of 1 mana for the fixing. It only barely does more than Breath of Darigaaz which was uncommon.

Aha! I could make it an instant. Big splashy rare effects are more normally sorceries, but if it's a bit weak at 5-for-5 sorcery, let's try 5-for-5 instant. Now it's a discount of 2 for fixing your Starstorm at one particular price point. Playing in the same space as Inferno, but not hitting players probably lets this be a bit cheaper.

Yeah, seems a very good spot. I think wizards may tone down which red (and black) wraths they actually print so there's not a critical mass of them in standard at once, but red is definitely entitled to a splashy wrath once in a while.
