I don't think red has ever got a RR 2/2 haste, but it seems like the card practically exists, given that Goblin Guide is too good, and Goblin War Buggy is not good, and there's a few 2 CMC multicolor creatures with haste.
At the last minute I tacked on the vampire clause, which should rarely matter, but hopefully will be a nice bonus when it does. I think it fits the flavour -- inexperienced slayers will often have a moment of glory, and then be living on borrowed time afterwards. I considered giving this the "vampire, zombie or blah" treatment, as vampire slayers do fight lots of stuff, but decided that it should just be vampires for flavour reasons. Goatnapper shows red does sometimes do a "randomly care about a creature type" thing :]
Heh, yes, this is very Goatnapper, isn't it? :)
And yeah, I'm also surprised that a 2/2 haste for
hasn't happened yet. It would probably be uncommon when it does, so this is great. Without the Vampire bit it could be core-set-able, but the Vampire ability ties it in to the cycle better. Good stuff.
The Goatnapper reference almost makes me want this to hunt a very absurd creature type... like goats, I guess. Obviously, if we're to keep the "Buffy" theme, though, vampires it is.
Later on, Ash Zealot came out and proved that it's fine for there to be a 2/2 haste for
. Good call, Jack :)
