On Etherium Powerstone:

How come etherium is a card type? Tezzeret the Schemer's tokens don't have any type

FAQ: "an Etherium source was used to provide payment for it" is a condition fulfilled if one or more of the following happened:

  • At least one mana added by an ability from a mana source that is of the artifact subtype Etherium was paid to cast that spell.
  • A nonmana cost of that spell involved sacrificing one or more permanents and at least one permanent sacrificed this way had the artifact subtype Etherium.

The primary way to achieve this is through Etherium Cell tokens which are functional identical to Treasures except for subtypes, though there can be a few nontoken artifacts as well.
