Though I'm not sure what to do with it, the following stealing mechanic has remained at the back of my mind:
> "Archive" (To archive a card, exile it face-down. You may look at, play, and spend spend mana as though it were mana of any color to play cards you have archived.)
So that thing in Praetor's Grasp and Daxos of Meletis.
A random enchantment creature with no named mechanic doesn't tell much about the role of enchantment creatures in the set.
The card is mechanically interesting. I'm not quite sure I would put it in mono-
, but it's probably fine.
Also, for some reason, I feel like this should be "exile until ~ leaves" rather than straight-up removal.
I find the flavor weird in that the door comes and stops the students before they have even thought about doing anything.
Development wise, it looks quite weak. Compare to say Trip Noose or Scepter of Dominance.
I imagine that milling will have more positive synergy. Double scale pilfering seems a lot for Limited.
I really just want a good thievery mechanic, and stealing from the library seems on-theme. I'll consider other options as they make themselves known.
This also seems quite similar to to many custom mechanics over the years - though restricted to an etb trigger which is weird. At first glance this seems like a lot of unnecessary revolving of cards.
The common variations which you are likely familiar with are often like (like the one in great designer search 2):
> "Archive" (To archive a card, exile it face down. You may look archived cards you own. If you would draw a card, you may put an archived card to your hand instead.)
Is library manipulation a theme here? That could mean that the set would be
-preferring format like how many of the sets have preferred
(torment, new phyrexia, etc).
From that theme I recall a mechanic from the past that created new mini-libraries or something like that - it was quite fascinating.
Meh. You aren't going to win games with this milling your opponent... So are all cards going with the mechanic do something when they pilfer? I don't think so.
The obvious and commonly done thing for this mechanic is to make it mill twice as much as the damage. Still, (not-self) mill mechanic is a pretty hard sell.

Insight showcase common.
Maybe "You may cast cards you own exiled by insight."
Forgot to give this p/t.
Inspired by Acidic Slime/Creeping Mold.
Original design name "Book Thief" and it might revert to that, but I have potential plans for Books/Tomes that don't fit with the mechanics of this card.
Scroll Thief was already taken.
