What if Magic had been cast in a completely different flavor?

On S.S Emeria (reply):

The mana curve for S:tC is significantly higher than M:tG (at least, my version of S:tC, as I've commandeered this card set.) It follows a couple of rules and designs that WotC calls Battlecruiser Magic, which is appropriate. Relevant link: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/designing-rise-2010-04-26

Thinking of Unit types for Space: The Convergence:

  • Naturals (those who have neither genetic mods nor cybernetic mods, are not clones or synths)
  • Mutants (those exposed to radiation, extreme environmental pressure, or abnormal outgrowths of the population explosion)
  • Psi (those who exhibit psychic powers)
  • G-Mod (those who have undergone genetic modification)
  • Cyborg (those who have undergone cybernetic modification)
  • Merc (those who are sell-swords or soldiers for hire, i.e. mercenaries)
  • Synth (artificial intelligence aka synthetic sentience, these guys are androids - they look and sound human but aren't)
  • Clone (those who were lab-grown and developed for a specific task, clones aren't considered 'real' people)
  • Vehic (vehicles, these come in a few varieties: mecha, flyer, tank)
  • Ship (self explanatory, these come in several varieties: fighter, bomber, striker, corvette, cruiser, carrier, destroyer, frigate, pirate, and capital)
  • Pilot (these guys get bonuses or have mechanics referencing ships or vehicles)
  • Gineer (aka Engineers, these guys modify other units abilities)
  • Leader (these guys buff other units stats)
  • Civie (aka Citizens, these guys represent non-combatants)

I'm not 100 % if this was already linked since the link is dead, but it was surely not up-to-date anyway.

On Propaganda Campaign:

{1} to mana cost? Ala Glorious Anthem. As is, this doesn't support that 'battlecruiser magic' idea at all.

On Planet Crack:

Why not sacrifice?

On Rivin S2:

@SecretInfiltrator: 'Unique' is my terminology that allows me to get around having Supertypes, which I personally find aesthetically / visually unpleasing. Cards with 'Unique' basically follow 'the legendary rule'. Also, dual lands are good, but since the mana curve for S:tC is so much higher, most of the Planets are capable of producing more mana (fuel) than usual for a price.

@Vitenka: You can't run 20 of these, as the 4-of rule still applies. The word 'Unique' is my personal lingo to get around the 'Legendary' and 'Basic' supertypes, which I dislike. I also changed the terms regarding 'mana' (fuel) and 'pool' (reserves). See my other comment about S:tC having a higher mana curve than M:tG.

On Rivin S2:

The behaviour seems fixable; we can assume S:tC has sensible rules.

I kinda like this idea personally. I know it won't appeal to everyone; but "Hey, it's either the right colour, or you can get more but it's a risk..." is loverly.

Sadly, it's strong. Because this always produces {2} when you don't care about colour. Which is good because it meets the "All upside random is good" criteria; but bad because it removes tension and is, well, really freakin good. Why would I not run a full suite of 20 of these, just for the colourless?

(Wait, what did we call mana? Supply?)

On Rivin S2:

Just want to mention that the rules allow for forcing this and any mana ability with a random outcome is broken - in the sense that its behavior is glitched. Also this kind of randomness is wildly unpopular due to the terrible actual gameplay.

Unique dual lands are not good enough?

On S.S Emeria:

I don't know. I kinda like that Worldspine Wurm needs to die before the next 15 power land on the table.

On S.S Emeria:

Not everything has to be a port. But dang, this costs 12. Sure, it drop 25 power of flying on the table - but that doesn't seem like it's enough for that cost.

I mean "Search your deck for as many capital ships as you like, and put them into play" would still be underpowered for that cost.

On Photon Torpedos:

Looks very powerful. Arc Trail was very strong and that was 2 and 1 damage, couldn't target the same thing twice, and was sorcery speed to boot.

On Destitute Doubles:

Changed type to Clone. Also unsure about 'augment unit' as I've never like WotC using super-types the way they do. It also sounds like 'Enchant Creature' (old card text) but it is supposed to be the equivalent of an Enchantment Creature, no?
