Recent updates to Code Geass: (Generated at 2024-05-15 02:04:13)
Perhaps I can spin some of the general Britannian citizenry as green. The ones who just love community and want to enjoy the blessings of their society. There aren't very many of those on-screen in the series, but I should note down those that we do see (if any).
Other concepts from the series that could fit in green:
(I guess there are perhaps rules issues with allowing a single subtype to go on both instants/sorceries like Geass to Die and permanents like this enchantment. I can't immediately think of one, and the fact that instants and sorceries can share subtypes gives me a little hope, but the whole tribal card type workaround to allow Tarfire and friends to exist does suggest there might be problems here.)
Yep, that consideration, along with http://codegeass.wikia.com/wiki/Cockpit_Ejection_System mentioning "if the Knightmare sensors believe that the pilot's life is in danger, it will automatically eject", swings me to make Eject non-optional.
Over on Mecha jmgariepy pointed out that a Shatter taking out a high-power mecha would feel a bit anticlimactic. One interesting point about the Eject ability is that it means creature combat becomes a way to "deal with" mecha (especially if I remove the "you may" so that the mech definitely gets destroyed instead of the creature), so the suggestion of making them an entirely different card type actually has some viability.
As I said on the cardset comments, I've written in the past about how Code Geass is seventeen kinds of awesome. So if you have any tolerance for anime involving mecha, politics, supernatural powers and high-school students, I'd highly recommend you give it a try :) (If you don't have tolerance for that, that's fine!)
But yes, you're right, artifact destruction in the set might want to be pared down rather. Perhaps following the Heat Ray / Death Wind approach like Molder / Detonate did. I'm currently thinking that the set might want to have a higher than normal concentration of instants, to reflect battlefield tactics, secret plans, and thinking on your feet, and some amount of those will probably want to neutralise mecha somehow.
I created Glasgow RPI-11 as an example of how mecha in the Code Geass set might look.
Ha! Yep, afraid so - this is one of the standard Code Geass mecha names. (The others being Sutherland and Gloucester , along with the variant Glasgows called Burai.) The main empire of Code Geass being based on Britain does lead to some strange terminology at times :)
I was sure this was going to be something like http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=glasgow+kiss , but apparently this is a non-ironic use of glasgow :)
Also, different type altogether? I don't watch Code Geas, so I don't know what's going on over there. But I'd assume that it would be anti-climatic if you could just Shatter a mecha.
Maybe artifact destruction should be specific in this set? Lots' of cards that read like Overload, or say 'non-Mecha artifact'?
Not that I'm happy with the restriction, but you'd think that "Creatures can only drive/equip one vehicle at a time" would make sense. I mean, wielding three Warhammers is one thing. But driving a racecar while wearing power armor is far too awesome.
More constraints from the series:
And I should say Powered Armor is very interesting and looks quite close to what I'm after.
From the colour pie article on green:
From the article where Maro interviewed Green:
And distinguishing green from white (always tricky):
Looking on Blogatog for relevant comments:
I would be tempted to just make Mecha equipment with an equipment version of Totem Armor. Maybe "If equipped creature would be destroyed, instead unequip this and loses its equip ability until the beginning of your next end step."
EDIT: See Powered Armor for a very generic example.
Yeah, I was thinking more like dude1818's Racecar or indeed Mecha Warrior.
:D
I'd really like to be progressing Clockwork Wings and the second and third sets in its block. I do know the full block structure and the plot of sets 2 and 3. But I'm somewhat stuck there pending playtesting (which is pending me either writing Multiverse drafting and playing support [which is itself pending lots of RoundTuits and a couple of other more urgent Multiverse fixes], or finding a time when I can persuade RL friends to play more custom Magic without my feeling horribly self-indulgent). I don't want to just proceed to design set 2 when one of the key evolving mechanics might need to be cut from set 1.
Soo... in the meantime, my creative urges appear to be heading in this direction instead :)
Code Geass is awesome though. I once wrote about how it's seventeen kinds of awesome, and I still stand by that :)
Vitenka recently reminded me of my vehicle implementation from the MDC. See Cannon Galleon. If you're looking for single-pilot mecha, though, I doubt that's what you want.
Ooh, a new cardset by Alex. I'm excited! Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about Code Geass, so I can't really help you there.
I always thought Code Geass was an anime that'd make a good Magic cardset, because it has LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters, lots of factions and conflicts, and a range of different themes. I'm rewatching the series at the moment and noting down ideas for how the cardset might work.
Comments from anyone watching are very welcome! Particularly if you've seen the series and have any ideas for how you think certain things should work as Magic effects, but also even if you haven't.
