Heh. I think it's probably fine, because the two abilities, while both strong, have what you could call some anti-synergy :) Reminds me of Marshal's Anthem.
Phoenixes are also a really odd creature type/mechanic. They return from the graveyard because that's what phoenixes do, which should make them black or green. But, honestly, who could imagine a fiery phoenix as being anything but red?
That makes cards like this a bit on the awkward side, since it's a phoenix, but it isn't doing anything that a green Elemental, let's say, couldn't do (well, okay, flying. But flying doesn't seem that necessary for this mechanic.) Personally, if I was in development, I'd argue to shift this out of red, and save the phoenix effects for cards that just scream "Make me a top-down Phoenix!"
I'm sure other people have other opinions on this subject, though. People like having phoenixes as an exception to the rule for a reason. One reason is because red is pretty limited in its mechanics, if we don't occasionally let it color bleed...
phoenixes were my favourite creature type when i first started playing magic, and at the time we only had clunkers like shard phoenix, shivan phoenix and the less-clunky bogardan phoenix. i think phoenixes can do better these days, although this might be a step too far. nod to eternal dragon in the recursion method as well as the ability to "cycle" it.
red iconic for the set. clear homage to inferno titan, but i think this differentiates itself enough.
but hey maybe it's nuts
also obviously a counter-intuitive card but i'm envisioning it in EDH/casual more than competitive formats
clearly a pushed card but given how much this is a riff on mirari's wake i want the cost to reflect that if at all possible
may or may not get completed across the block
Ooh, incomplete land cycles are not very well liked.
I hope that Khans of Tarkir brings us wedge taplands.
another clean-up attempt
attempt at cleaning up the text, although it really is a messy effect so let me know if it's confusing.
the name is pretty rubbish but it's a placeholder. so are the abilities to some extent, but i do want some cards that work at showing the colour split. this does a good job of it, even if the card itself needs work. also i want to have the main characters in card form so i can reference back to them as the set develops.
been thinking about tithe. i want the white mechanic to assist the white sub-theme, which is "# of creatures with growth counters matter". it doesn't really do that at the moment, but i can't think of a good way to make it do that elegantly (i could just let tithe trigger on any creature ETBing rather than just creatures with counters, but then you have a bunch of creatures with useless counters on them).
anyone have any ideas?
