give it a name and flavour text
give it a name
Steampunk and gothic graveyard horror both have close ties to Victoriana. With its current flavour this card could be more at home in Innistrad, but I think it's okay to have some cards like this in a set like Clockwork Wings. I could always rebrand this as a Thanatomatic Recursatron though.
change "5, T: Exile 5" to "X, T: Exile X".
There are startlingly few 4/4s for 5 mana in white that don't have flying, given that there are loads of them for

that do have flying (starting with Serra Angel and carrying on). There's Wandering Graybeard, Lightwielder Paladin and World Queller, but they're all

; there's not a single
4/4 as far as I can see, apart from Changeling Hero which has the drawback mechanic Champion.
All the above are at least uncommon, so I don't mind that this is uncommon, although a french-vanilla vigilant creature could certainly be common if it were smaller. This is edging into the "big dumb white guys" territory of Rockcaster Platoon, Crowd Favorites etc.
give it a name
Rather insane with Pentavus, but many things are.
This is just meant as a generic large common guy. But actually this kind of ability has been very unusual in the past. Vindictive Mob has something vaguely similar, and has a nasty ETB drawback. Hero of Oxid Ridge is mythic, although it does give the effect universally. I'll have to try this to see if it's a major problem. I'm not particularly attached to this design, so I could easily ditch it for something else.
Inspired by the Modular ability on Arcbound Worker etc. Could say "artifact creature" in one or both cases, which would make it rather less strong. Also slightly less usual for green, but this set has a number of green cards that like artifacts.
As I mentioned on Goblin Looter, in the articles by mtgcolorpie on red looting (one, two) he points out that discard-then-draw feels a bit more red than draw-then-discard.
Jack: Bwahahahaha... I'm so tempted to mock up an {X(X+1)/2} mana symbol now :)
X: ~ gets +1/+0. You may not pay the same amount of mana this turn for this ability, nor may you pay
.
:P
{X(X+1)/2}: ~ becomes X/1 UEOT.
:)
The name is funny, but I agree, not very life-link-y :)
:)
Compare with Loxodon Warhammer (rare) and Behemoth Sledge (uncommon). Most lifelink equipment is rare (or higher).
Name is a bit silly and can change.
Quite a bit cheaper than Planar Portal, but sacrificing permanents does add somewhat to the cost.
