Arguably yes, but by going 2-color it helps reign in the access to and and rate of potential ramp. It also makes the +2/+2 more justified; we don’t seem to see “+2/+2 and ability for 2” (i.e. Goblin War Paint effects) in green as much as we do in red these days.
