@SecretInfiltrator perhaps I was looking at Centaur Rootcaster when I designed this card, but it's been a hot minute since that card's seen print :P
I could see this being changed to an etb trigger or an uncommon rarity.
I know that I can put () to not have it write reminder text - then I suppose I copy and paste it myself at the end, no?
You know how to get the reminder text at the end of the paragraph, right?
I'm not certain, but with the searching and shuffling I would keep this an uncommon. At common maybe something more like Adventurous Impulse. What's one of those for lands only?
Everyone has a skeleton in their closet or ghoul in the attic that they'd rather have nobody else know about.
simple reprint
@SecretInfiltrator Yeah the name could use a change definitely, it was just random word searching at the time :P And yeah, if it gets unblockable it could become very powerful, good to consider that.
@Vitenka Thanks for the comments, I'll judge ulterior motive cards by that description now :)
Yeah, this is basically "If you don't blcok this creature, it gets to Rabid Bite" and has the whole attacking a creature directly thing going that provoke had as well - it's a mechanic that fits in the same color arc of red-green-white easily.
The nice thing of this over provoke/lure is that it actually allows you to hunt down Llanowar Elves. I am a little wary that you can make your choice of "prey" after blockers are declared. The removal capabilities of this mechanic are already quite strong.
I don't care for the name. I like names like "Stalk", "Tracking", "Pursuit" or "Hunt". "Predation"?
I really don't seem to understand why an Ooze of all things does this, or why an oily one in particular.
The set gets a name! And it's a nice one. I think it fits the themes and inspirations.
Also, "It's time for another round of 'ubuntu release' or 'mtg creature'!"
@dude1818 yeah, that's a good point, I didn't consider that :P
I can see cases where you'd want to throw a pair of 1/1s at it because your better creatures are busy blocking some massive thrampler elsewhere. But yeah, pretty niche.
Why would you? You'd normally be trading up a 2/2 into this. Only high toughness creatures or tramplers get multi-blocked
Yeah, but this is literally "Ok, if you don't block me, I'm going to pretend that you did, except I get to choose what blocked me and you don't get to hit me back"
Well, any saboteur ability is lure to some extent. But that does't mean "Whenever ~ attacks and isn't blocked, defending player discards three cards" should go on a green card.
It's pretty much "~ must be blocked if able" :)
Hang on; that's lure. That's an actual green ability. Do that.
It's Laccolith Grunt! Wait, no it's not. It's Zealot il-Vec.
I was and am aware, and I was referencing the fact that the mechanic prowl was in Morningtide and not Urza's Legacy - expanding upon your reference. :)
Was referencing [[[Erase (Not the Urza's Legacy One)]]]
You mean Morningtide, right?
Prowl (not the Urza's legend one) - ... :)
@Onygox:
I figured as much :) That's why Sanctuary Cat was the first card I linked to.
I'm also personally of the opinion that we aren't too far from having a 2/1 vanilla for
at common in a standard environment. Savannah Lions at common in Masters 25 could be seen as a 'pretest' for this.
The one thing with going 1/2 or 2/1 with this card is that it begins to seem physically too powerful for a 'cub'. So maybe from that perspective, going with some keyword would be better. On the other hand, we did have Bear Cub, but I always found it strange that it's as powerful as Grizzly Bears.
Looking at the set, I would actually find this to be the perfect place to use ulterior motive instead of (((Oily Ooze))). A cat prowling just makes sense where as Ooze doing that rises questions. I have to say that ulterior motive as a keyword name sounds quite daft. Unfortunately, 'prowl' has already been used in MTG as it would otherwise be the one I would suggest :/
@SecretInfiltrator @Tahazzar good points, I do agree that a 1 mana 1/1 is underwhelming. I would like it to be vanilla though changing it to a 1/2 is not a bad suggestion.
I would be happier with a Sanctuary Cat or Trained Caracal... Something like Sacred Cat would be even better. Warclamp Mastiff as a Cat could make sense as well.
Not even
, the 'worst' creature color, gets plain 1/1s for 1 anymore (Slither Blade).
Sometimes simple is good. Sure, it's not a power card. But it's a kitty. I'd be happy to get a nice artwork kitty.
