Random Generator gave me Slaughter and Camouflage. When I saw Camouflage, I almost cried. What an exciting idea Richard Garfield came up with, and how many doomed Magic players and judges were forced to deal with how that stupid card is supposed to work in a normal game of Magic.
There's no way I could have stuck all of Camouflage into a card, but I did what I could. It's possible that with the easier version of the buyback cost, that quasi-slaughter becomes too good, but it's probably Ok.
Oh, and how about that shuffling morphs on the battlefield, huh? I couldn't think of another way of expressing it as simply, but, in hindsight, I wish it was on a few more Morphs.
Random Generator gave me Pirate Ship and Droning Bureaucrats. I like this card; Its very flavorful. It's a pity, though, that will never be allowed in a Ramirez DePietro Commander deck. Commander needs a new rule that states that you must either follow the colors of your commander, or his creature type.
Random Generator gave me Aurora Eidolon and Yawgmoth's Bargain. I think I might have fixed how crazy good the Bargain is by adding
and sac to the enchantment. Bargain is absurd. It comes from a time period where a standard Magic philosophy was "If it costs more than 4, it should win you the game outright". The high costed cards just weren't worth the mana investment. Urza's Saga sure blew that philosophy out of the water...
Originally, this card had this line of text:
, Sacrifice ~: Until end of turn, you gain an emblem that reads "Lose 1 life: Draw a card."
I really dig the idea of emblems that last until end of turn, and think there's a lot of cards that could use it... especially instants and sorceries. It seems wasted here, though, since there are a number of ways to express the same thing on this card, so I pulled it.
Sure. I can drop this to three. Let's give enchanters some pause, eh?
It's tough, because no matter how good the card ends up, if it doesn't meet one of your criteria, there will always be something wrong with it. But I like this card, and would like to play this card, and making it more like Heart of Yavimaya would interfere with that. I suppose that will have to still my hands on this card.
Eye of Ugin was pretty confusing... but not because its rules text was difficult to understand :)
You're right, though. If I had to guess the reason, I'd say mythics are meant to be exciting, especially for new players. A new player will often find a confusing card confusing rather than exciting.
Kitsune Mystic is utterly awesome, undeniably. But this is a very nice Brainstorm / Conch Horn kind of flip card. Reminds me of Archmage Ascension (and would go great in the same deck as it).
If it leads you to an interesting design, that's definitely the most important part of the mashup satisfied.
I think this could be cheaper; 4 or even 3 mana. Tranquility wasn't rocking any boats; compare with the more recent Back to Nature.
Random Generator gave me Jester's Cap and Screaming Seahawk. It's a powerful effect (despite the influence of Screaming Seahawk) and could even be used to slap three Islands into your hand. Despite this, it just doesn't seem Mythic. Mythic is kind of funny... the rest of the game assumes that the more complex a card is, the higher the rarity should be. But I don't think I've ever seen a non-Planeswalker, super-confusing Mythic spell.
