Change the name to match up with a legendary dragon that has a power of 4
Yeah that is a little stronger than I had intended. Though I noticed that most of your cards for regeneration comparison from modern magic didn't require you to tap to activate it. I'm gonna up the activation cost to match the other ability.
This is actually rather more efficient than "regenerate target creature" usually gets. Most repeatable sources of arbitrary regeneration are card disadvantage (Tel-Jilad Lifebreather, Fanatical Devotion, Medicine Bag, Draconian Cylix, Savage Thallid etc). (Well, okay, not card disadvantage because you're saving a creature, but card-advantage-neutral. (Card neutravanatage. Nonplusorminusvantage. Evenvantage. Uh, is there a word for that?))
The ones that aren't card neutravantage are powerful rares (Yavimaya Hollow, Asceticism), rather conditional (Vagrant Plowbeasts, Sporeback Troll, Jhoira's Toolbox), require quite fiddly mana (Ragnar, Niall Silvain, Suture Spirit, Orcish Healer) or otherwise fiddly circumstances (Molting Skin/Broken Fall, Horizon Seed.
So while gaining 3 life a turn for an investment of 4 mana or is fine, I think regenerating arbitrary creatures for just 2 mana or just might be a bit stronger than you intended.
Nice. Continuing the cycle of Scroll of Avacyn and Scroll of Griselbrand.
4 damage is quite a lot. But having a Dragon is a fairly significant hoop to jump through. I'd certainly play this in my Changeling deck.
I was thinking having to pay to tap sac for the mana boost, but paying one to have it land on the field I like better.
I'll be updating it shortly. Edit: ok it's been updated with the Rupture Spire clause.
Um. Not if you're keeping the ability to tap for three colours, because if you do anything else on top of that you're strictly better than Jungle Shrine, and Jungle Shrine and its cycle are powerful and popular and shouldn't be obsoleted.
Unless you mean an ETB cost of , like Rupture Spire... a Rupture Spire that only makes 3 colours of mana, but can tap-sac for a boost of 3? Yeah, that I could see.
I took your search and resorted to see what the stats are like in the modern environment And got roughly 86 non-wall defenders vs. 46 wall defenders. So in terms of modern/current design environment it's closer to 1/3. Either way I made this card and several others I've done recently by using the random button on gatherer and making anything that comes to mind. I think that this is a decent update to an old card that would not likely see any play today.
Also I apologize for my error in the of the top of my head stat. I should have tried to look into it before using the stat.
Hmmm. Fair point I guess without an activation cost this could allow you to ramp pretty fast with the risk of not having enough lands mid to late game. Would an activation cost of or be a good fit for this style of land?
I make it more than 50% of defenders being Walls: 109 Walls with defender, 94 non-Wall creatures with defender (and that list has quite a lot of a few false positives like Defender en-Vec, Grotag Siege-Runner and Jungle Patrol).
But nonetheless, sure, the other 50% are worth destroying too.
