I am planning to use Nimbus Maze in a Set I am working on as part of a cycle (zendikar with colourless mana). Can I re-use the rest of your names for cycle? (I am unsure how to private message.)
I'm quite surprised to see that someone's playtesting these cards in 2015. I would be very interested to get in contact with you Volvary and hear what your thoughts are, since I'm actually starting up an Archester Revival project hoping to recreate this set with a much higher standard of quality.
After some play test, we have found that this card is overpowered as a 1 cost steam powered. Having this equipped basically mean you can kill any creature for and Tap. We have found that putting the cost at was more balanced
Yeah I guess. What if it was loot, then for each loot?
Draw 2 discard 1 seems pretty good for instant speed. Comparable to Ponder or Preordain but instant... not quite as good as Brainstorm, but Brainstorm is way above the power curve these days.
I do like the "easter egg" mode where you can cast this for as a Compulsive Research.
I think it's fine. Storm will love it, but that doesn't matter.
Is the mana cost right? From what I understand, you pay 2 to cycle this card or U to draw 2 discard 1?
Yes.
Is the land ability still activated?
As it stands right now,it is a better version of Arrest at the cost of color density which is a big drawback in this set. I like it.
The Baloth was printed in Zendikar, 5 years ago. This is not part of modern creature creep.
Ok, fine. Wizards are printing stuff bigger than expected. Stupid moving target. Stupid creature creep.
I assume you mean that 5/4 is a bit meatier than expected, Vitenka? 4/5 was already printed with Leatherback Baloth.
4/5, at least.1
Um. Yes. Colour density isn't worth THAT much; after all, to a mono-green deck this is not harder to cast than a is. It's quite likely to hit the board on turn 2.
And, well, ok, it's not going to win the game outright on turn 3. But it's quite a bit meatier than might be expected.
A 5/4 for GGG ?? That might be a bit too strong.
I finished and posted all the artwork in the creative thread on MTGS.
What do you guys think of just changing this to a functional reprint of Coma Veil?
Over in the Archester Creative thread we've begun work on the art descriptions for the White commons. If anyone would like to put their imagination to work have at it. :)
Changed name
But I was really attached to "Some Pirates" :P
Is the name "Sky Pirates" too generic? Because that feels like a better name. :p
I think 6 is more appropriate. The original casting cost was intended to work with Clockwork, which meant this card bought you one extra combat and gained you a couple life. Now that we have modular, this represents a large number of potentially permanent counters, as well as a whole ton of life.
Made the destruction trigger optional
We gave this sword's triggers a bit of extra oomph. Protection from Artifacts is far weaker than the protection from two colors other swords give. Since this sword leaves its wielder much more vulnerable, as well as easier to block, the hit triggers could be stronger than others. This is especially true since the sword is only really good in an artifact deck while other swords are essentially universally good. I think adding "may" to the destruction clause is a good idea though.
There are many activated abilities that use colorless mana. Part of the point of the card is finding a way to use the mana.
The problem with doing the inverse is that it has exactly the opposite effect. The spell becomes too powerful because your opponent probably isn't prepared for it. It just becomes a hyper efficient counter.
Look at it this way: Currently the card asks you to find a way to use the mana. If you set things up correctly, this card is great, otherwise it's just a mediocre counter.
If we reverse it, the card forces your opponent to use the mana. Unlike the first version, you don't have to set anything up at all, but it punishes your opponent for not being prepared. It becomes an incredibly powerful counter that sometimes is just a good counter.
Changed to pirates, switched unblockable to flying
The power of this card comes from context, specifically what I like to call the "Modular Ball". If you just keep playing modular creatures, the +1/+1 counters never go away, since one of them dying just transfers all of the onto the next. Maybe on it's own this feels kind of weak, but I think it's far too dangerous to have at uncommon for it's shear ability to add counters to the ball.
Also, the fact that this can be cast in any color is relevant to it being rare as well IMO.
True, but the card is modeled after Tooth and Nail, and I think the added functionality of putting out any artifacts you have, not just the ones you searched for, makes the card better. (You avoid awkward situations where your win cons were already in your hand)
Not for not... but the name 'Oscillating Glory' sounds kind of racy to my ears. :S
