  Well, it does have downsides; not playing well with others. You could certainly build a deck around keeping one of these alive and making it huge.

  But I guess, as you say, that the real danger is just takng the advantage early on, then switching to whatever normal strategy. Which makes this a "Oh, ok, I'll throw in four of these" card.

  Amusingly, not one you can usefully muligan for, though :)

  So... go second, play this on round two, then attack for 8 on round 3? That's a bit harsh. The card will almost always be a 3/3 or much, much better. Just 3/3 for would be questionable.

  wotc's new policy to have more black creatures with toughness greater than power. this makes it a better blocker, and possibly less likely to be blocked.
