Recent updates to Portal of New New World Order: (Generated at 2025-08-18 11:13:25)
Actually, with the second sentence I was trying to clear up the situation in which player A says "I cast Sign in Blood targeting you" with player B responding "Okay, but I grant hexproof to myself" and player A going "Nevermind then, I target myself."
I find an attack trigger questionable - it breaks the natural flow of the combat phase... ETB would be preferably IMO.
REPRINT: Benalish Veteran
This is the only existing one following this template with square base stats and a square boost.
I'm thinking another new design following this template with bigger stats for green though.
The second sentence absolutely does more harm.
Why doesn't this have reminder text that life loss cannot be prevented like damage, but can be replaced by an ability that says so? Also some reminder text about this not being life payment and hence can reduce the life to 0 or less? And that drawing from an empty library loses the game?
Those last two are more relevant reminder text than what you put into the second sentence since they at least have something to do with this card and not "another spell or ability".
Your first sentence already defines the timing of target choice, the second sentence just repeats that information and then goes on to mention irrelevant exceptions.
Maybe +1/+1 for just single
? Compare to Break of Day which in itself is a strictly better Glorious Charge.
Changing creature's pt temporarily so it no longer has squared stats is pretty much same as having non-square statted creatures, so I would obviously avoid that.
See Lunar Force, where it is suggested not to consider "a"/"an" in the word count.
Really would like to add "you may"...
"after declared"
modified the reminder; the added second sentence might do more harm than good
What do you mean with "if any"? The reminder text is on a card with targets, so you don't talk around that by adding confusing references to how other cards work. Also we already have the phrase "as you cast", so no reason to not use the simple phrase "(Choose the target as you cast this spell.)" (And adapt the reminder text for spells with multiple targets).
Functional Reprint: Ethereal Guidance
"Ethereal" seems like it would be red-flagged. It should be noted that the similar Warrior's Charge had reminder text - and maybe we want our pump spells to be square, too. In which case I suggest reprinting that instead.
REPRINT: Sign in Blood.
The reminder text is questionable. Night's Whisper would be an usable variation at common, but this felt like a good place to tackle with the idea of targets / targeting.
Here's more on 'targets' just to get some sense of what we're dealing with here.
Added a flavor text.
REPRINT: Divination.
I bet nobody saw this coming.
artifact or creature >> creature; cost:
>>
; no longer a reprint; name changed
REPRINT of Carrion Crow btw. This compares badly with Wind Drake, but I guess it has more relevant creature type(s) so I can live that.
See Walking Corpse.
I think this might be a good place for ETBT since it doesn't alter an otherwise vanilla card. Certainly doesn't need to be the only one.
"on" -> "to cast"
edited the reminder text...
spells might be too much, even at uncommon
That reminder text needs reminder text that tells me that if I spend

on Blaze on the other hand it deals only 2 damage.
This enchants an artifact or creature, but later on it refers to an enchanted "permanent". I think the concepts of permanents/cards/spells might not be familiar to all people so this might dilute the usual intuitive nature of aura spells. For example, Nature's Spiral has always been accompanied by a reminder text - and that's an uncommon.
Is there a sensible version that only enchants a creature?
REPRINT: Blaze.
REPRINT: Ice Over
I count cardnames and keywords as a single word (including parameters) and I don't know whether enchant is supposed to be counted at all. So this is 9-10 words.
Now a reprint
->
Just leaving this here: Blazing Volley. We'll likely still want a spell that deals high damage to a single target, but maybe we can table that until later and just put a targeted burn spell at uncommon for now.
Pushing this to common UU12 -> CU12. Depending how word count is calculated (does this include articles "a" and "an" ?) this might stay within those limits.
might be problematic (word count: 10, affects multiple permanents)
I made one once that had eleven or more words. ^^
I think we'll eat a red flag here for the target and make some basic burn variant like Lightning Strike or Flame Lash (since its already a red flag might as well be an instant?).
REPRINT: Muraganda Petroglyphs
Just something we would eventually think about trying out. Also a reminder that words like "Petroglyphs" are okay at higher rarities. :)
See Tin Soldier.
Trying an approach to make a vanilla creature matter.
