Yeah, the flavor of the oath itself is very White.
No, then nobody could practically use it barring a manbase like Khans-Battle standard with fetches and battlelands, which is not what we want. White seems fine, as Shallan, Szeth, and Dalinar will be white and Kaladin rewards you for playing white. Also,

A number of reasons.
1) Kaladin is very charismatic. Red is the color of charisma.
2) This is also supposed to be, to some extent, Kaladin before he decided to try to help Bridge Four. He didn't really care about protecting people at that point. If we were to do a flashback Kaladin, it would probably be

3) Finally, and most importantly, color balnce. We need an even distribution of legendary creatures across the pie. We tried it dozens of different ways, and a red kaladin that flipped to Azorious worked best.
regarding that Haste discussion: why make Kaladin red to begin with? he seems like a better fit for white. also, maybe doesn't matter for his bridgeman days, but he was a spearman: first strike would maybe be more appropriate than haste.
Cool. Any chance we can do Formshift to Rlain? I know it's bluring books a little bit, but it's the only chance we'll have to make it for now.
Well, not many ways to solve it. Kaladin requires either Boros or Izzet, preferable Jeskai. The rest of the radiants are all over the place. Maybe we could make it WUBRG?

my only concern: right now your actual radiants are nonwhite, so someone playing a red deck and using Kaladin, say, wouldn't be able to use this, which is weird for a card based on the one universal radiant oath

Does the defender work at all on a red card? I wanted to try to represent the workform's aversion to violence.
