Seems like a fair variant; though basically always worse unless you get stuck on 1 or 2 mana.

But for that one game where you have exactly {u}{g} in play, and can't find that third mana; perfect.

V: Also better if you have it in a hand full of two-drops or other three-drops. Not much better, but able to play it as a random 1/1, at least.
