Discovery-compensated ramp spell.
I just replaced Discover Territory with this in the skeleton, as it was a problematic design. This works better as a Discovery enabler and ramp spell. Thanks for the contribution! I also added you to the contributors list on the thread on the forum, as even so much as one card makes you a contributor. And I recall you being part of the earlier thread when we were brainstorming the concept of the set.
I understand that this is meant to compensate for not increasing your discovery when you cast this card, but really I would rather this card let you draw if you played a land which you didn't already have a copy of. The cards should encourage you to use the mechanics in the set, especially the new ones. To introduce a card at common that does the opposite of that seems like something we don't really want to do.
That alteration would make sense, rewarding you for a card with a different name instead of the same name.
Changed to "doesn't have the same name" to encourage and jibe with Discovery.
added 'in any order'
Probably too wordy for common.
It is pretty darn wordy.
We need a common green card of some sort that functions as a Discovery enabler, which is what this slot has been in both forms. Is there a less wordy way to do this? Maybe something simpler that leaves out the card draw part, or even that just searches your library for a land with a diff name and ETB tapped?
As much as I dont want to reprint much more, this slot is probably for a reprint like Farseek, Rampant Growth, Harrow. Just a simple mana ramp spell. This card can probably be changed to uncommon. I know we have a few other reprints in the skeleton but after looking back over it we can cut a few if needed.
Wouldn't searching for a land with diff name make more sense, given Discovery's existence? Basic land just seems limiting as a Discovery enabler.
They all work well in some form. Fareseek can get a creature land if you have it, Harrow has the potential of getting rid of lands you have multiple copies of and replacing them with ones you dont, and Rampant Growth is just a slightly more controlled version of that. The idea you've suggested feels more like a uncommon, just because if searches from the library it has to be for a basic lands most of the time.
I don't quite follow that. This card, and the card that preceded it, searched for any land and put it on the battlefield tapped. What I'm suggesting is actually slightly more limited than any land, it's any land that doesn't share a name with a land you control. It is slightly more complex, but then so is Discovery on any common for the same reason.
I can definitely see the argument for Harrow as a Discovery enabler though. But searching for two basic lands only helps Discovery in multicolor decks and isn't necessarily the greatest way to contribute to "lands with different names", especially if you already have two different basic lands out. Then it comes out as a wash.
What I was saying is that cards that search for any land directly from the deck are generally found at uncommon (Sylvan Scrying). The way we've tried to implement getting a land with a different name is by having you only look at the top few cards. But these options are often wordy and can be replaced with simpler options. Crop Rotation could be another possibility.
