I think i see what you mean. Hmm, so not strictly better just generally good and useful. I'll have to work on it.
Thanks for the wording. Also, is the wubrg activated ability too powerful, not powerful enough, or does it just not fit? Or does it need two activated abilities? Suggestions for what can make Pristine Powerstone feel mythic.
Heh. Sadly I don't think you can target an activation cost :3 I think this needs to be worded as "The next time an activated ability of target permanent (/card) is activated this turn, it costs
rather than its normal cost", or something vaguely like that.
Thanks everyone. I'll edit it as suggested.
Nice idea, I'll use it.
Ramblings are welcome. Like you said lots of design space. :D
Hmm. Points taken. I'll bump it to uncommon, and throw on the activation cost. :D
Yeah, most equipment has some form of effect on combat from providing evasion, to pumping, to pinging, tapping, etc. These just don't really fit as equipment.
This doesn't really use the equipment-ness. It could just read "
,
, Tap an untapped creature you control:" Similarly with (((Alarm Bell))).
Nice. The
,
activation cost means it's not strictly better than Orcish Artillery. I'd keep it as "to you" rather than "to you or a creature you control", though. The latter is almost meaningless, because it can usually be activated at EOT when the damage is about to wear off, or just hit itself to no effect unless the opponent has a burn spell.
Just as a data point, in the recent Second Great Designer Search, one of the multiple-choice questions was "Which of these effects might happen at common in a new set?" One of the options was a pinger ("
: ~ deals 1 damage to target"). It was not the correct answer.
Wizards have been making a big push to simplify commons, and yes, this does make them hard to design.
Personally I'm not keen on having cards in the same set that are strictly better than each other, especially at different rarities. Knight of Cliffhaven felt odd to have Glory Seeker in the same set; these feel worse. It'd be much better to have their costs vary as well as their effects. This could still fit with your desired flavour: it makes sense that a non-worn Powerstone would take more mana to summon than a Worn Powerstone.
Nice idea to expand an existing card into a cycle.
If you want it as equipment it shouldn't be a scepter as they are traditionally activation artifacts. Deconstruction Orb maybe, Deconstruction Probe ???
Maybe add "
: Instead of paying the regular activation cost of target artifact, That cost is considered paid."
as an extra ability ?? Seeing as it's a powerstone it should be able to power just about anything.
could probably keep it common if dropped to 1 damage, 2 damage is too strong for common would still need activation I'd think.
looks better
Fair enough, disregard my ramblings then.
Thanks for the complements.
Since everyone seemed to like Shrapnel Launcher, I wondered if I could do a spell everyone knows and loves in the form of a reusable equipment. This could be considered a prototype. Any suggestions?
Any suggestions? I still want it in the 'Powerstone' family, perhaps they all share similiar drawbacks or something. But I don't want a Mox or Lotus.
