Not sure how to feel out the balance and appropriate CMC on this sort of approach, but I kind of like the possibilities of Grandeur. This is sort of high powered but you also have to meet some conditions for it to really be used to its full potential of 3 reanimations, and if you don't manage to get any duplicates in your hand at all it's kind of weak for a legendary card.
I get what you're saying. And it is a good wording. I think my hesitation is simply putting in a bunch of cards that reference "cycling" if I'm not going to include regular cycling, even if it still works. But I've switched over all such cards to "whenever you cycle or discard a card" atm.
This card is literally functionally identical to a card that says "whenever you cycle or discard a card" since both wordings are functionally identical to "whenever you discard a card". (Unless the weird wording you use implies you want this to trigger twice on landcycling, but that wouldn't be consistent with how you expanded the ability.)
The cards that mention cycling separately just use redundant rules text to emphasize that cycling involves discarding a card.
If you are willing to broaden this ability into discard, then there is no reason to not make it (backwards-)compatible with other forms of cycling.
There is no shame in using an established wording if it is a good wording.
Changed to Granduer.
Changed to legendary.
It would work more as
, you're right.
The first ability is sort of that way on purpose, sort of meant to carry over into the next two phases, more like a regular enchantment effect. Maybe that goes against the rules of how sagas work and I wasn't aware?
The Blood War is sort of an eternally on-going thing, but I figured this could represent an "episode" of it, so to speak.
But yea this was sort of a wild experiment. I like the idea of a saga being able to be your commander more than anything here.
I intend to develop some on-theme sagas at uncommon, rare, and mythic. I'll have to feel out how to go about that and it's definitely an important item on the list next to legendary lands and gates.
This version seems better but it still is a little oddly narrow given the existence of plain "whenever you cycle or discard a card". I would use that if I had regular cycling in the set, but I'm not sure.
