They don't make that an optional trigger anymore. They even just gave Ajani's Pridemate functional errata to make the upside trigger mandatory

That's quite a lot of life. Compare Auriok Champion which is more expensive and gives you 1 life; and Soul's Attendant which is also 1 life, but less expensive.
