This is obviously suppose to be a silver-border card, but this site doesn't allow mixing border colors in a "set." People unable to speak may utilize a proxy or interpreter to call out for them.
Changed compost from an ability word to a keyword in response to comments and critiques.
The Soul cycle is actually the reason I created this ability word. Thinking about this now, after just having looked over the criticism for Synchronize, I could have compost be a keyword that's separate from the actual activated ability instead. "You may activate this card's activated abilities from the graveyard once per turn. If you do, exile it."
I'd actually forgotten that conspire exists. A fact that's especially shameful seeing as how I have a Wort, the Raidmother commander deck. Synchronize was originally supposed to appear on permanents and copied activated abilities instead. I changed it because the set I had in mind for it already had plenty of ability word mechanics. I'll go back and see if I can't tweak it so that its a keyword mechanic.
to SecretInfiltrator's point, you'd probably have to do it as two separate abilities, akin to M15's Souls cycle e.g. Soul of Innistrad, Soul of New Phyrexia.
I have a theory. I was wondering "Why not make exiling the card part of the cost?". And while I was wondering that I developed this wild hypothesis that you think this ability can be activated from the battlefield. But it can't. Abilities that state they can be activated from a specific zone (explicitly or implicitly) cannot be activated from another zone you usually would activate that ability from (i. e. the battlefield) - same for triggered abilities.
If my wild hypothesis is correct, the wording could get quite out of hand, but you can do it by stating explicitly all zones the ability can be activated from.
Compare the triggered ability of Firemane Angel.
I think conspire is a perfectly fine mechanic.
Replicate - Tap two untapped creatures you control?
I don't think going really high in numbers actually serves a purpose in the sense of making this a better design than conspire. The best you get is no mention of color.
"Your creatures can help copy this spell."
I wouldn't say that the long text eats up the red-flag allotment, but more of the fact that it is theoretically infinite (more like 1-2) copies per spell you cast, which seems strong unless the spells themselves are weak. Maybe if you limited it to only one copy? But then that'd be too similar to Conspire...
Too much text means too complex, eating up the red-flag allotment at common. It'd probably be better if I changed the ability to read 'Copy this spell for every two tapped creatures you control.'
In the original design, both abilities had an X variable. But doing so, made it too powerful for common; defeating the purpose of the ability's purpose of allowing
at common. I'll tweak it so that its less level up and more Subterranean Tremors. I'll save the x variables for higher rarities.
Huh. Ok, pay more to turn on ability 1, or even more for ability 2 instead? I can see that.
The current template does beg the question "Why would you ever pay
?" though.
Inspired by Subterranean Tremors, Gratuity is a mechanic I made to bring
costs to common. Imagine it templates like a level up creature.
I'm thinking on doing various triggers for it in order to distant it from other kicker-type abilities.
Hmm. Possibilities - just shuffle it back into your deck? Not as good as being near the top; but also less repetitive.
Or maybe somehow exile attached to the thing; and allowed to recast on that thing only?
I kinda like the flavour though.
(Regarding comments - it it's not the most recent change in a cardset, chances are I won't see it.)
Alternatively, I could go 'If this spell targets a legendary or renowned permanent, copy it if it was cast. You may choose different targets for the copy.' But I'd want to change the ability name if I did that.
I posted this exact card on another custom card site six months ago and no one said a word. Thanks for pointing it out.
In regards to repetitive game state, it was suppose to be a less problematic version of buyback. I knew the draw prevention might've been an issue, but I believed it being a "may" ability would've mitigated that somewhat. I'll change it from 'top of the library' to 'third from the top' for now.
Unearth could work for auras if you ignore the part about haste. Lore was actually supposed to be auras becoming like instants with flashback, but I initially forgot the "as though it has flash" clause.
Another realm creature, but this one is multicolor, so it makes a Mountain Forest when it dies. More importantly, its reminder text isn't the shorthand version I used previously.
Weird in multiplayer since it only cares about the player having a turn right before you.
Putting something onto your library to be able to cast it again prevents you from drawing cards, so this mechanic has tension towards repetetive game state. :(
The other weakness of this card design is that you clearly want to put it into a set with renown, yet renown uses +1/+1 counters as memory aides which is clearly undermined by tis spell arbitrarily distributing them.
Patron of the Valiant e. g. cleverly puts the counters only on creatures that already have counters, so it doesn't undermine the memory function of +1/+1 counters. Only one card in Magic Origins can put +1/+1 counters on an arbitrary creature card (most put the counter on themselves) - and even that one only at uncommon if a special condition is met.
If you ask me the counter is what you want to restrict to renowned permanents - if you restrict it to creatures that could work.
Doesn't unearth already work for Auras?
How exactly do you determine whether a creature dies into a Mountain or Forest (s. Cedar-Back Colossus )? Is it color? How does realm work on multicolor creatures? Asking for a friend (named Prismwake Merrow).
