And yet black can pay and sacrifice a creature to gain an additional the next turn with Ruthless Knave.
I always considered Blood Pet to be something black still can do at a certain inefficiency. Black, red and green are the original colors to get Eldrazi Spawn and black gets the death-related Pawn of Ulamog. And later Carrier Thrall and Sifter of Skulls for Eldrazi Scions.
There are still hints of its ritual past in where you can get "partial refunds" of spells you cast, but they don't generate a surplus of mana - and hence aren't mana acceleration (Dark Petition, Liturgy of Blood).
Strangely enough, has gotten a couple of modern cards that ramp up your mana if they are tied to Swamps (Crypt Ghast, Liliana of the Dark Realms). MaRo's notes of this are this and this.
Nowadays, I would say your card is quite , maybe even , but hardly .

That's why I give Frostveldt Pests to black.
I think this card is plenty inefficient to sell "not as immediate as red, not as lasting as green" ramp through a creature death angle.
It has been since at least 2011 or so (Pyretic Ritual). Even back in 2012 it was "a while now". Blood Pet was a thing in 2001 and then we got Basal Sliver (2006), but you know, Time Spiral had stuff like - the card being a direct callback to Basal Thrull.

Good point
That seems to make it very weak. What if I were to limit this to only Elf spells?
I still think rituals are certainly quite black, is this a permanent change, or more of a pendulum thing?
Okay
I'll make it smaller, and try to remember that regulation
Too strong - I would imagine this would be played in all of the environment's decks - regardless of color.
Maybe if it had:
> ~ ETBs tapped. When it does, it doesn't untap during your next untap step.
Too weak. We tend to see 1/2s and 1/1 deathtouchers as 1-drops in
these days.
Also, the set already has Xalai Naturalist.
It's certainly very strong. However, the main issue is that
doesn't do that much rituals anymore and that those effects have been moved into
's pie.
Too pushed. I would reduce one point of power, toughness, or both.
getting even a 3/3 vanilla for
is questionable.
Too pushed IMO. 2/1 flying for this mana cost would be okay (Stormfront Pegasus).
generally doesn't get large creatures at common. It's more weenie oriented compared to
.
Strangely enough, I think 3/4 would just be under that size limit to be okay.
I don't feel like doing a pure reprint, but this modal form is less than ideal
Cloudshift is quite solid on its own so I don't personally see the need for this upgrade.
Or you could play with my gnomes.... because i made them just for uuuuuuu :3 :3
Huh. Now I wanna build a Bottle Gnomes deck.
