I get the impression that the problem isn't the length of the mechanic, but with the ability you're granting. The +X/+X, double strike and extra combat phase don't make the card that much more interesting. I'd just drop to something like a +8/+8 bonus.
also yeah bloodletting isn't really the right name for this but i needed a placeholder
bloodletting is a first take on the IP system. it works but it's wordy, especially with cards like this one. but it's pretty hard to capture the essence of an ability like octo-strike without octupling things.
not exactly in red's wheelhouse, but then again what kobold is? these guys liked to run away a lot, wanted to capture that
antares looks like a blue creature, but his ability poison pin is quite black. i feel like this card is blue because of the horned turtle legacy but maybe that's not enough

Wanted to make a set less concerned about mechanical nuance, because it's easier to just plain make cards for. Really liked this game as a kid, and it seemed like it'd play quite nicely as a set.
yeah sure it's nuts, but it's the most succinct way i can think of to get the feel for the cave. and the cave deserves a sweet card, because it's great
