how is this? maybe an uncommon, or should i remove the hexproof and make it a 2/2 with ramp for 2?

Ouchie. A hexproof mana elf is pretty darn good on its own.

A mana-bear (2/2 tap for mana) is interesting too. Still shockable, but might get used as a blocker sometimes.
