I'd cross out "you may".
Is it intentional that an opponent opening the gate prevents you from accessing this effect. The gate interactions are a bit hard to evaluate since it is a state that two players can "fight" over.
Gate works like day/night in that way. I don't think it warped limited to have both players theoretically caring about it. Most cards will simply switch "on" if the gate is open, with cards triggering on opening being less common
