As long as Shieldbearers is shielded, it is indestructible.
The 2 is the "shield value" - essentially, you have to deal N damage to this before the shield is destroyed. The mechanic could have extra benefits while the shield is up - for example, this is indestructible while shielded. Or, the mechanic is just the base and the cards have the effect (better effects for rarer cards)
Ooh. Heh. Reminds me of Protoss units in Starcraft. I really like that idea actually: Terrans and Zerg can still have units with just P and T, but Protoss get the third value, shield, either functioning like absorb (Lymph Sliver) or in some other way.
